Podholic: Collecting Cars with Chris Harris
Our weekly podcast pick is a British icon whose status as fine motoring journalist is enhanced by his motorsport pedigree.
IF one person out there can mix journalistic magic with a racing pedigree, it would be Chris Harris. More known for his exploits in GT racing and the post-Clarkson era of Top Gear, Chris has an uncanny ability to convey what’s happening underneath him mid-corner into a descriptive that the audience can understand.
There is a genuine, no-bull approach to how he talks about past experiences, cars and racing, which is why Collecting Cars is such a great listen. The podcast itself is part of an online auction platform where sellers can list anything from pint-sized Peugeots to potent Porsches. Every show features Chris interviewing a fascinating range of guests from Jenson Button to Damon Hill.
To date, each of the 27 episodes are equally as good as the other. However, check out the 21st show with renowned car designer Gordon Murray for an intriguing behind-the-scenes look at Brabham and McLaren racing back in the ’70s and ’80s. It’s truly eye-opening stuff back in a time where if you had the right skills, you could walk straight in and land a job - which in Gordon Murray’s case, was designing Formula One cars.
