GMSV’s magnificent seven

Act quickly if you want a C8 Corvette Carbon Edition.

ONE for each dealership so seven cars in all for New Zealand – that’s the deal with the most exclusive and, as yet, most expensive version of the incoming C8 Corvette.

General Motors Special Vehicles has completed the set, as it were, with announcement today that Carbon Edition flagship of the C8 line it revealed back in March will cost $197,990 – so, $28,000 more than the 3LT Coupe, pictured, it is based upon.

What justifies the premium? Agreed, it looks like the operation has pull a dollar value of its rarity.

But not just that. The Carbon Edition is also identified by having a carbon fibre interior package with carbon fibre inserts on the dash and door panels, trident wheels with machined face in spectra gray, colour coded brake calipers, a carbon fibre roof, an engine appearance lighting package with carbon fibre closeout panels, a unique carbon Edition build plate and what GMSV describes as an ‘exclusive Carbon Edition customer welcome pack’, which you’d assume will comprise more than just a fancy keyfob, pen and notebook.

It sounds like it could be a good looking car … and it’d great to share some images. However, as of yet, there are no photographs to share, GMSV says.

As well as revealing the top dog launch model’s sticker, GMSV has also notified the C8 order book is now officially open.

“The long wait is over, the books are open and our dealers are ready to place orders,” said the Director of GMSV, Joanne Stogiannis.

“Excitement and anticipation have been building since the reveal of the C8 right-hand drive programme almost two years ago, even more so when we released recommended retail pricing for 2LT and 3LT models in late March.

“The build-up to this point will be sure to reach a real crescendo with release of the pricing and specification of the Carbon Edition.”

GMSV has previously indicated that it hopes to have first cars here before the end of the year, though it has signalled that while it can control the build process, the shipping is not in its hands.

Just to remind, the other C8 derivatives for NZ are the 2LT Coupe and converetible, at $154,990 and $169,990 and the 3LT Coupe (also $169,990) and convertible ($184,990).
