Range Rover pricing for NZ starts lower, peaks higher

The entry price has lowered, but every tag is a telephone number

ANNOUNCEMENT of pricing for the new Range Rover, which begins to ship in from mid-year, gives plenty to think about for fans imagining they’d have to sell off the family silver to achieve buy-in.

The entry model in the new line starts lower than previously at $209,900, which secures a D300 SE standard wheelbase variant, but pricing ultimately climbs a lot higher, with the most expensive edition – the P530 SV - will lighten the family trust fund by $384,900.

The previous line kicked in for $221,900 and topped at $270,00. 

However, the old line only ran to four models; the new almost triples that.

The family encompass nine wholly fossil-fuelled editions, four of these in the new-to-type seven seater long wheelbase format, and four with a plug-in hybrid system that, while relying mainly on a petrol engine, also delivers 55kms pure electric range.

Parent brand Land Rover is upping its PHEV game with the Evoque and Velar as well; the first now delivers with a petrol-electric for $117,000 and the latter has the same powertrain in $139,900 and $149,900 formats.

Land Rover New Zealand has also said the fully electric edition of the new Range Rover now well under development will be here in 2024.

Revealed internationally last year, the new Rangie is certainly an affluent looker; the makers says it solidifies the distinguished status of this vehicle with minimal yet refined physical upgrades and new advanced technology, capability, and modern luxury features.

 Land Rover NZ has not shared any volume predictions, but reminded today that within hours of the global reveal, its retailers had taken over 60 pre-orders – without final confirmation of pricing, arrival timing or model specifications. On top of this, local chief executive Steve Kenchington has expressed optimism that interest will “skyrocket” once the model hits NZ turf. 

He suggests the hefty pricing is relevant given the model’s market status and place. 

“The vehicle leads in a league of its own, with minimalist detailing creating a tranquil cabin of state-of-the-art technology and unmatched capability.

“The new Range Rover is undoubtedly the most desirable luxury SUV on the market – it writes the next chapter for this incredibly unique brand known for its pioneering excellence.”

The first shipment of new Range Rovers is expected to arrive in New Zealand from mid-2022, with Range Rover SV and PHEV models arriving later in the year. Land Rover NZ says it is hoping to secure a large allocation of production following the overwhelming demand for the vehicle.
