Opel discount programme resumes
Second time around for limited period big cuts to recommended retails.
FIVE months on from a first wave of sticker slashing to shift a surplus, Opel has repeated the exercise for the same reason, with a core electric car again achieving the heaviest discount.
That model, the Mokka-e SRi sports utility, is sliced by $13,000, to offer for $56,990 plus on-road costs. The car launched in November last year for $69,990.
In April it fell to $52,740, plus on roads, in a programme that was also for six weeks, the same period as now.
That price was on assumption a buyer also achieved a maximum Clean Car rebate, which was then $1534 higher than it revised to on July 1. Now that support tops out at $7091.
With the fresh campaign, announced yesterday, Auckland-centred Opel New Zealand has once again made clear the savings only apply to cars in stock and is for a limited time period, this time until the end of September.
The brand’s website highlights the ‘Clean Car Clear-Out’ only applies to cited models, while stock lasts and not valid for future orders.
The 1.2-litre petrol-powered Mokka is also discounted. The entry Edition is down to $32,990, a $6000 reduction. The SRi is now $35,990, $9k below original cost.
The cheapest model offers here Opel remains the Corsa, which has the same drivetrains as Mokka, in identical tune.
The petrol SRi which drops to $31,990, from the usual $36,990 price tag. The electric equivalent is now $49,990, a $10,000 fall.
Opel NZ has indicated the Corsa as it currently represents is now on run-out. A heavily updated Cross was unveiled in Europe last November.
Opel NZ is part of the Armstrong Group’s Autodistributors operation.
Commercial manager Noah Robertson says “strategically secured backing” from the manufacturer, part of the Stellantis group of brands but more specifically now under the purview of Peugeot-Citroen/PSA, is allowing Opel to remain true to its genuine ‘challenger brand’ in the NZ market.
“We’re challenging our competitors and some of the new entrants on price - because we know we have the quality.
“The Corsa-e is a classic example of this. It is one of the most successful model lines of all time – close to 15 million units sold across six generations globally.”
The realignments also affect the freshly-landed Astra SRi, which has $4000 snipped to sit at $45,990, with the plug-in hybrid GSe version becoming a $64,990 choice. The new Grandland SRi is being offered at $46,990 and the PHEV at $69,990.
