Jaguar’s future starts here
The British brand’s ultra-luxury EV concept has leaked ahead of its official unveil.
AS is often the way, the internet has laid bare a concept ahead of its unveiling - in this case it’s a car that previews Jaguar’s future design language.
The Design Vision Concept whose formal unveiling unveiled at Miami Art Week in the United States is set to occur later today was leaked on line hours ago, via a forum called Coche Spias.
Now proliferated across international automotive media, they give a complete first look at the exterior low, sleek electric GT car.
The styling is expected to strongly inform three new-era electric vehicles, beginning with a similarly proportioned four-door luxury sedan that is set to show next year and begin production in 2026.
In commenting on the images, the website for Britain’s Autocar magazine said: “Clearly, it is completely unrelated to any Jaguar model that has gone before – making good on the company's ambition for its cars to be ‘a copy of nothing’.”
The magazine says the monolithic, minimalist silhouette is defined by a long, probing bonnet, which calls to mind some of Jaguar’s biggest-engined past models and lends the concept a distinct cab-rear stance.
It notes that the A-pillars are effectively invisible and the side windows narrow towards the rear, “giving the glasshouse a wraparound effect reminiscent of a racing helmet.”
Autocar had previously revealed that the car would have a bluff front end with a prominent ‘grille’ motif and a new lighting signature comprising ultra-slim LED strips at each edge.
It has also highlighted now how the arches are dramatically swollen to accommodate large-diameter, wide-set allow wheels.
It also points out that the new Jaguar emblem features just aft of the front wheel on a gold panel, which houses a rear-view camera on each side.
The cameras are necessary because, as with the Polestar 4 that is now in the New Zealand market, the model lacks a rear window. The back end is instead dominated by a large vent-style pattern.
That’s one of the four defining motifs that form part of Jaguar’s new visual branding signatures, Autocar reminds.
There is strong belief those cues are set to feature prominently in the upcoming production sedan, which recently began road testing, but in heavily disguised form. Jaguar says the production will deliver in excess of 438kW and have a range of more than 690 kilometres. It will be priced in excess of $214,000.
