Podholic: CarExpert Podcast

Aussies are the world’s ace know-alls … so this view on all things automotive is highly expressive and entertaining.

LOOKING for some online listening that’s a little closer to home? Check out what the Aussies are doing over the ditch on the CarExpert podcast (https://www.carexpert.com.au/category/podcast).

The weekly show is hosted by journalist and audio engineer Mandy Turner and the wider CarExpert team for musings into auto industry news, comparisons and new car reviews.

Unlike many other podcasts abroad, this one offers more relevance as New Zealand often aligns with Australia for new vehicle allocations, regional tuning and specification. So, quibbles about suspension traits or poor tyre noise there can be relevant here, as well.

The panel also has some serious talent up its sleeve, no least with Australian rally driver Chris Atkinson – the guy who made his World Rally Championship debut in 2004, scoring six podiums and a stack of stage wins with the Subaru World Rally Team until the Japanese manufacturer’s 2008 exit from the sport, then six years later unsuccessfully chasing a seat with Hyundai’s WRC squad subsequently won by Hayden Paddon. Atko’s role with CarExpert is to provide often sideways content for track comparisons and those all-important performance metrics.

Selected here is a fascinating offbeat episode, listen in on how podcast founders Alborz Fallah, Paul Maric and Tony Crawford started the CarAdvice on-line platform that’s just recently renamed as Drive.com.au.

The journey from nothing to notoriety, a sale to the Nine network empire, and a phoenix rising from the ashes under the CarExpert banner is an eye browsing game of corporate chess with an enthusiast ethos at its heart.
