Your host, Andrew St. Pierre White, has fierce passion for building four-wheel-drive vehicles and exploring the most extreme corners of the globe.
His remote expeditions have been filmed in 20 countries, on four continents, over 40 years. Hence why he’s known as the Sir David Attenborough of off-roading.
Extreme climate survival. The impact of modifications on vehicle reliability. Driver training. The best types of four-by-four? He’s your guy.
Guests over the 13 episodes so far posted span industry involvers and adventure enthusiasts. It’s all in-depth stuff rich with off-road terminology. Andrew's storytelling is great; the episode in which he relates reason for a steadfast hatred for baboons is brilliant. Lesson: Never feed wild animals. Outcomes can be crappy.
Vehicle suitability comes under the microscope. Tyre choice considered. Consensus is there is no perfect tyre, but of all, narrow, 33-inch rubber is preferred.
Vehicles with solid axles get the nod over those with independent suspension setup. Brands? Toyota is tops for reliability and ease of in the field repair. Anything with complicated electronics, including most Land Rovers, not so much. Andrew has plenty of personal experience.
The episode with Australian journalist, John Cadogan, is worthy, with light shed on drawbacks with accessories and potential for adverse effect on drivetrain cooling. The discussion naturally extends to warranty claims, both positive and negative. Professional driver training is considered the best off-road modification of them all.
Running as a weekly podcast on Spotify and a vodcast on YouTube, ‘The Next Journey’ is well-polished and engaging. Andrew’s dry and eccentric humour is an acquired taste, but adds a uniqueness.
A highly recommended source for off-road enthusiasts and adventure seekers.
