Podholic: Flipping Teslas to TikTok

Keen to know the secrets of car salesmanship?

BUYING a car might evoke a myriad of emotions—excitement, trepidation, sheer frustration.

Maybe the Car Dealership Guy podcast might be a panacea. The aim of this weekly show is to lift the lid on how car dealerships work and the ins and outs of buying and selling cars.

Host Yossi Levy (above) is a social media influencer who, until February, was only known by his pseudonym ‘Car Dealership Guy.’ He’s basically your poacher turned gamekeeper, a guy who once sold cars and now wants to help consumers avoid being screwed over. His decision to reveal his identity stems from his desire to forge a more genuine connection with his audience.

The show is interesting. It demystifies car buying and offers an insider’s view of dealership operations. Levi is unashamed in being an influencer; however you feel about that, his innovative use of social media (TikTok in particular) has paid off. He has a substantial following.

He’s done okay selling cars, too. His skin in the game includes being the founder of Gettacar, an online platform where people could shop for a used, reasonably priced car and get it delivered the next day. A highlight of his career has been to ‘flip’ (onset for profit) Teslas for ridiculously high margins. He’s happy to share that experience and others. You can understand why he is considered noteworthy within the US dealer community.

Topics range from negotiating tactics and understanding financing options to the latest trends in automotive sales technology. Levy frequently interviews industry experts who invariably offer diverse perspectives. Even though not everything will seem directly relevant to NZ, there are valuable insights here.

The podcast is not without shortcoming. The broad range of topics often asks for more focus than is given. On the visual side, its YouTube format could benefit from better camera placement and background staging.

As niche as it is is, the Car Dealership pod works for me. I can commend it to anyone interested in vehicle sales and how social media can transform an industry.
